Are scale models art?

Can scale models be considered art?

Art (ärt):noun: The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”

In this strict definition of art, perhaps not.

Our scale models are not an expression of our emotions, ideas or our views of the world around us. We do however strive to make scale models that incite emotion and excite the viewer about the project. Through the use of different technologies, materials and technologies, the goal of a scale model is to accurately represent the architects design.

In this way, scale models serve as a bridge between the viewer and the architect. They are an extension of the architects thoughts and ideas on design and they convey how their designs will affect the world around them.

So in this sense, can scale models be considered art?
